A future-proof home you would never want to move from

Architect Pål Ross always includes a home lift in his house designs.

3 QUESTIONS TO PRICE AWARDED ARCHITECT AND DESIGNER PÅL ROSS

The star Swedish architect and designer Pål Ross has completed over 300 residential projects over two decades. Ross always includes a home lift in his house design. We are of course curious to know more about that. Aritco got an exclusive interview with the award-winning architect.

HI PÅL ROSS, WHY DO YOU ALWAYS INCLUDE A HOME LIFT IN THE HOUSES YOU DESIGN?

– My clients want to build a house with a capital H, a forever home. They know that if they develop problems using the stairs when they get older, they will either have to move or they won’t be able to access the entire home.

When I was a student, I worked part-time at a retirement home and many of the older residents really missed their homes. Staying in a safe and familiar environment when you get older is very valuable.

Futureproofing has always been a focus of the houses I design, and home lifts are an essential element of that.

WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF A HOME LIFT?

– Reliability and functionality are top of the list as the whole point of a home lift is that it allows you to stay in your home as long as you want without having to negotiate stairs when you get older.

Affordability is next, and then aesthetics as I see the houses I design as works of art. When I in 2001 started to add an home lift in my house projects, all lifts on the market were quite ugly and needed to be hidden away. Now I incorporate an Aritco HomeLift into the interior design as it is a stylish and distinctive feature.

Pål Ross designed Villa

Pål Ross’ practice Ross Architecture & Design has built up a reputation for creating beautiful homes that are designed for a lifetime as they are always futureproofed with a home lift. So we asked him:

HOW MUCH VALUE DOES GOOD DESIGN ADD TO A HOUSE?

– The buildings we design are more than just houses. We mix architecture and art and create movement and flow throughout all the rooms so that they are inviting and atmospheric even when they are empty. We always include a lift as it’s an element of smart design that will add value to the property in the long term.

Thank you very much Pål Ross.
