Aritco Outdoor Lifts

Expanding Accessibility Beyond Four Walls Making the Outdoors Accessible to All

When the weather warms up, lives naturally gravitate outdoors. From cafe terraces to garden parties, the warmer months invite us to embrace open-air living. However, due to spatial constraints and topographical realities, many outdoor spaces are left inaccessible to people with limited mobility.

At Aritco, we believe accessibility shouldn’t be limited to indoor areas. Therefore, our range of outdoor lifts offers stylish, customizable solutions to provide the same safety, convenience and accessibility that we offer with our indoor lifts. But when might an outdoor lift be the right choice?

When to Consider an Outdoor Lift

According to Robert Strange, Director of Platinum Lifts – an Aritco certified partner in the UK – there are several scenarios where an outdoor lift might be the best option:

  1. Limited indoor space
  2. Historic buildings where interior modifications are restricted
  3. Providing access between different ground levels (e.g., from a car park to a building entrance)
  4. As a less disruptive and potentially more cost-effective alternative to indoor installation

Jesús Arévalo, Managing Director of Aritco Spain, also believes that limited space is a major factor in choosing to install an outdoor lift. “Sometimes, due to space constraints or architectural design, it’s challenging to fit an elevator inside a home,” he explains.

Real-World Applications and Inspiration

In the UK, Robert has installed outdoor lifts in various commercial settings. “We’ve installed outdoor lifts to serve upper levels of business park office blocks and to provide access from ground floor car parks to care home entrances,” he shares.

And in Spain and Portugal, Jesús has seen a growing demand in the residential sector as well. He notes that indoor space limitations aren’t always the main issue, outdoor lifts can also connect different levels of exterior areas. “We have clients who need a way to access their gym or pool located below their home,” he adds.

One such example was the installation of an Aritco outdoor home lift for an elderly man who could no longer easily descend the stairs to his downstairs gym. His wife wanted the lift to complement their home’s design, selecting a black exterior that matched their window finishes. “It seems the lift was always there,” says Jesus.

Uneven terrain is also a common challenge that can be solved using an outdoor lift. In Spain, Jesús’s team was approached by a woman with limited mobility who couldn’t make full use of her stunning, multilevel sea front property. “Her house is in the upper area, and her garden and pool are in the lower area. The stairs prevented her from fully enjoying her villa and the Malaga sunsets. Thanks to the Aritco outdoor home lift, she can now fully enjoy all the benefits of her home again. And the option to choose a shade of green for the exterior helps it blend in with the nature around it,” Jesús explains.

The Aritco Advantage

Aritco outdoor lifts are specifically designed to withstand a variety of weather conditions and temperatures from +40°C to -5°C. For colder climates, an insulated and heated shaft is available. For wind loads above 10 m/s, we offer a glued shaft option that can handle up to 25 m/s.

Robert emphasizes the durability of Aritco’s outdoor lifts, sharing an experience where they had to replace competitor lifts after just one year due to rust and moisture damage. In contrast, he notes, “Since we installed the Aritco outdoor lift at this site four years ago, they have been very reliable.”

Aritco offers three models suitable for outdoor installation: the Aritco HomeLift Access for residential use, and the Aritco PublicLift Access and Aritco PublicLift Cabin for public or commercial settings. All models are available in wheelchair-friendly sizes and can be customized with over 200 RAL colors.

With their shaftless design and minimal ground preparation requirements, Aritco outdoor lifts offer a practical, stylish, and durable solution for enhancing accessibility in any outdoor space.
