How does a platform elevator work?

The secret is a safe and reliable screw-and-nut drive system with 10 year warranty.

Well-proven and reliable system

There are several different ways a platform elevator can work. Aritco has chosen a well-proven and reliable screw-and-nut drive system for driving the elevator up and down. The main components of screw and nut drive lifts are:
– motor
– threaded steel bar (“screw”)
– large drive nut (“nut”)
– electrical supply

This system allows Aritco elevators to be easily installed without a pit or a machine room so they can fit into house or building plans without disrupting the design or requiring major alterations to the structure. It also makes them safe and reliable.

Mechanism is simplicity itself

Screw and nut drive elevators are incredibly simple. In Aritco’s screw-and-nut drive system, a screw pole runs the length of the shaft, while a motor on the platform drives a nut attached to the screw.

The motor and the nut are attached to the platform wall. When the elevator is operated, the motor drives the nut to rotate around the screw. When the motor turns the drive nut one way, the elevator car goes up. When the motor turns the nut the other way, it goes down.

Easy to maintain and service

The simplicity of the mechanism means it is easy to maintain and service. Usually screw and nut-driven elevators are relatively low cost initially and over the lifetime. Automatic lubrication ensures a smooth ride with minimal wear. This reduces the need for maintenance and allows Aritco to offer a 10-year warranty on the drive system.

Incredibly safe operation

Screw and nut-driven elevators are incredibly safe. If the motor stops, the lift basically sits on the thread so cannot fall or do the classic ‘dead drop’ situation associated with elevators in films. The drive system also makes the elevator move quietly and smoothly with a soft start and stop.
