A white house surrounded by a green garden

How can we futureproof the built environment?

With rising energy bills and extreme weather caused by climate change, how can we retrofit our homes, apartments and offices to save and generate electricity and become more resilient?

The war in Ukraine has caused energy prices to soar and sparked a cost-of-living crisis that is affecting companies and individuals alike. Hopefully this conflict will eventually blow over, but with the effects of climate change escalating, energy will remain an issue and we will face other problems.

Existing buildings have not been designed to withstand the challenges we will face over the coming century. And whether they are built from scratch or retrofitted, it’s clear that the homes and offices of the future will need to be smarter, greener, and built to last.

Our commitment to sustainability

At Aritco, sustainable design has been a key element of our DNA since the company was founded in 1995. The Aritco HomeLift has been designed to future-proof new and existing homes for the long-term, so we’re interested in other innovations that do the same.

So, we’ve commissioned global innovation intelligence platform Springwise to produce a research paper, The 100-Year Home. The report includes the latest products and services, both in development and in production, that will enable homeowners to generate their own power, save money, and remain safe and secure in the face of known and unknown threats.

Trend report - Aritco

Scouring the globe for the latest innovations

This is the third in a series of reports published by Aritco and Springwise exploring macro events and shifts that are affecting the way we live and work.

It includes innovations that we can introduce into our homes to harvest sunshine, wind and even humidity to generate and store power. Second skins, organic insulation, new shower systems and even underground car parks can help us save energy. And cleverly designed kitchens, portable power stations and porous paving stones can support food security and save us from power cuts and flash floods.

Discussing the future-proofed home

Aritco will be sponsoring a discussion on this topic at 3pm on Wednesday 8th February.  It will take place at the Aritco stand (13:39), Stockholmsmässan, as part of Stockholm Design Week.

The talk will be hosted by professional moderator Beata Wickbom, and the four panelists will be David Schill, Marketing Director of Aritco Lift; Tove Chevalley, founder of sustainable transformation and innovation consultancy Kaizen Studios; Erik Olsson, head of business development at Midsummer, a Swedish manufacturer of discreet solar cell roof tiles; and Maria Axelsson, founder of sustainable architecture practice Axeloth.

If you miss the panel discussion, it will be posted on this website shortly afterwards. You can sign up to get a link to the recording here.
