2022 in Review

Adapting to The Future Home with a Circularity and Sustainable Mindset

As 2022 comes to an end, our most familiar places and spaces have transformed in the most exciting ways. With an aging population being a global phenomenon, the adaptation of houses for older-living has demanded new clever solutions, ensuring the future home is fit for its Third Age inhabitants. Aritco embraced the challenges, and we took action in our own business during the year, supporting the move to the next level. Join us in our review of 2022.

A COMPACT LIFT DESIGNED TO CONNECT TO THE SMART HOME OF THE FUTURE
“Both our partners and customers requested a smaller lift than those currently on the market, still spacious enough to be practical”, says Product Manager Petra Lind. A compact, space-efficient solution was needed.

The new Aritco HomeLift Compact was made with a smaller footprint, retaining the smart home technology and improving the customizable design features.

SMALLER: A more compact lift, compatible with more homes, offering as many people as possible a transformative product.

CONNECTED: The connected (IoT) lift simplified everyday life for the house owner and the service technician.

SOUNDCHECKED: A updated absorbing sound experience, introduced with the use of new materials, supported by a better lift experience.

3 Trend Reports Published
The pandemic shocked the world, but it also allowed designers and builders to rethink our homes and the spaces where we spend our time. It helped accelerate global processes, such as new technology and digitization. The progress filtered into the world of design and development and, in particular, the time we spend in our homes and how we value an effective living. The 2022 trend reports feature insightful views of how we will live and work sustainably alongside the threat of climate change and ecological collapse. Get inspired by the innovations and opportunities presented in our trend reports for 2022.

1. REDEFINING THE HOME FOR THE THIRD AGE
By 2050, over two billion people will be aged 60 or over. The ‘third age’ term includes anyone over the age of 50, but someone 55 years old will have little in common with a 95-year-old. While adapting houses for older living traditionally involved installing walk-in showers, a more fundamental rethink about what a home for the third age has risen.

Vice President Products, Services & Technology at Aritco, Niklas Karlsson says, “I believe that the industry will be making many exciting changes to stay relevant in the future. Many of these changes will be related to sustainability, and at our department, it’s a lot about challenging truths.”

2. We predicted in RETHINKING LUXURY: SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS that this trend would only grow, as more luxury brands seek to do more than just look good – but to do good, too.

3. In our most comprehensive report “FUTURE OF THE SUSTAINABLE HOME AND OFFICE” we confronted if it is possible to build a world with no waste and how the products and appliances we use every day will need to conform to the principles of the circular economy. “You will find innovations in the report, telling us that a more sustainable future is already here,” says David Schill, Global Marketing Director at Aritco.

>>We observed…

Two topics were distinctive during 2022 – Sustainability, Circularity.

SUSTAINABILITY
A trend in Google searches has shown an increase for ‘sustainability in luxury brands’, where high-end consumers indicated that sustainability and circularity are just as important as quality.
Our CEO, Martin Idbrant explained Aritco’s thoughts on sustainability;
“We work with sustainability in everything we do, and every day we must ask ourselves; Is it possible to use different or recycled materials for our products? How can we make the service and maintenance more efficient for the 40,000 lifts we installed worldwide? And how can we improve durability, upgradability, and recyclability to extend the lifetime of products and materials? “

CIRCULARITY
Our homes and offices are prime targets for circularity due to the amount of waste generated. This has forced a rethinking of the entire product and building lifecycles, developing ways to repurpose items already in circulation. Simultaneously, a new era of making smaller footprints transformed how our homes and offices needed an impact.

THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE
Aritco joined a panel discussion on this topic as part of Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks 2022. Swedish TV presenter Li Pamp moderated the talk, and the panelists were David Schill, Marketing Director of Aritco Lift; Håkan Nordin, Head of Sustainability at Swedish vinyl flooring company BOLON; and Thomas Sandell, one of the most prominent architects in Sweden today.

LIMITED EDITION DESIGNWALL FROM DESIGNERS KROON AND LERVIK

A collaboration of the two designers, Evelina Kroon and Alexander Lervik, turned modern forms and graphical printing design into a limited edition DesignWall, ‘Geometric’. The designers’ signatures can be found on each piece that flirts with retro designs.
